One of the greatest Dungeons & Dragons video games of all time could soon be available on the Nintendo Switch 2. At least, according to an online leak from a reputable video game insider. The news comes hot on the heels of the game’s recent second anniversary and other recent developments that suggest there may be some truth to the rumors.
While the news has generated excitement from both D&D and Nintendo fans, it’s worth noting that D&D license holder Wizards of the Coast and BG3 developer Larian Studios have not officially commented, so for now it’s merely speculation. That being said there are some other indications that this could in fact be a reality. Below, we break out everything we know so far.

How likely is it that BG3 will be on the Nintendo Switch 2?
The news that Baldur’s Gate 3 might be making its way onto Nintendo’s latest console was posted on X (formerly Twitter) by video game insider NateTheHate2, who hosts the “Nate the Hate Podcast” which covers video game news. In an exchange on X, he was asked about the possibility of BG3 appearing on the Nintendo Switch 2 and responded that “Have heard something on BG3 for SW2 but need more verification on it before I can share.”
Notably, NateTheHate has a solid track record for breaking video games news and has been extremely accurate in past announcement, including breaking the news on when the Nintendo Direct and PlayStation State of Play Events would happen, in addition to a number of other major leaks.
Porting the game over to a new platform this late in the game’s life cycle also isn’t as far fetched as it might seem. In fact, a month ago, BG3 developer Larian Studios released a version of the game for the Steam Deck. During that development Larian specifically noted that “This is not just good news for Steam Deck users either, the work the team has put into this build also means that everyone will get to enjoy overall improvements to the way game models are streamed on all platforms.” This has lead some to speculate that the work done on the Steam Deck could potentially make it much easier to port the game onto the Nintendo Switch 2.
It’s also worth noting that the new hardware in the Nintendo Switch 2 is more than capable of running Baldur’s Gate 3, which is something that wasn’t necessarily possible with the original or even OLED versions of the Nintendo Switch.

What platforms is Baldur’s Gate 3 currently available on?
Currently, Baldur’s Gate 3 is only available on the PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. However, the game was first launched back in August 2023, and in the past few years Larian has made significant strides in addressing compatibility and cross platform play.
For example, there were technical issues in porting the game over to the Xbox Series S, particularly with split screen co-op. The development team’s experience in addressing these types of challenges could make development for the Nintendo Switch 2 much easier than it would have been early on in the game’s life cycle.

Final Thoughts
Baldur’s Gate 3 recently celebrated its second anniversary in August, with Larian Studios sharing some key stats about the game, including the fact that mods have been downloaded over 265 million times. So while BG3 is starting to show age, fan interest in the game remains high. For now, however, this is all rumor and speculation, and it remains to be seen whether this Nintendo Switch version of the greatest D&D video game ever made will actually happen.
We’ll be keeping a close eye on this story in the days ahead and will update this page with new information as it’s made available.
